Check this page monthly (or when notified). Scan the role tags to find updates relevant to your work, and flag anything that affects a build you have in progress.

  1. Scan tags — each update is tagged with one or more roles. Find yours.
  2. Read the action — most updates include a concrete next step.
  3. Flag conflicts — if an update affects a build you are working on, pause and review before continuing.

AI testing now part of Prompt Standard#

Tags: Product & Engineering, Curriculum

The Prompt Management Standard now includes AI testing requirements — hallucination checks, bias detection, and prompt injection prevention. These apply to all Orange and Red builds that use AI-generated content.

Action: Review the updated Prompt Standard before your next build.

Who needs to act?

If you are building anything that generates text, quiz questions, or recommendations using AI, the new testing requirements apply to you. Green and Yellow builds are encouraged but not required to follow them.

New safeguarding standard for student-facing tools#

Tags: Curriculum, Product & Engineering, Leadership

A dedicated safeguarding standard is now available covering age-appropriate design, content moderation, and GDPR requirements for any tool used by students aged 13 and over. This is mandatory for Orange and Red builds that are student-facing.

Action: If you are building anything student-facing, review the Safeguarding Standard before starting.

UK ICO updates AI guidance for children's data#

Tags: Leadership, Product & Engineering, Curriculum

The UK Information Commissioner's Office has published updated guidance on using AI systems that process children's data. Key points include stricter requirements for automated decision-making, transparency obligations, and Data Protection Impact Assessments for AI tools in education settings.

Action: Leadership and Engineering should review the guidance. If you are planning an Orange or Red build involving student data, flag this with the designated reviewer early.

Approved tools list updated#

Tags: All roles

The Approved Tools page has been refreshed. Two new tools have been added for internal use, and version requirements have been updated for existing tools.

Action: Check the Approved Tools page if you are starting a new build to make sure you are using a current, approved tool.

How updates are sourced#

Updates are curated by the Framework contact with input from Technical and Designated reviewers. Sources include:

  • Springpod internal decisions — policy changes, tool approvals, process updates
  • UK ICO and regulatory bodies — data protection guidance, enforcement actions relevant to edTech
  • AI tool changelogs — breaking changes, new capabilities, deprecations for approved tools
  • EdTech industry news — sector-specific AI developments, competitor approaches, research

Updates are reviewed for relevance before publishing. Not every AI news item makes it here — only those that could affect how Springpod builds with AI.
